Munger: 5 girls drown in Ganga, search operation underway to locate 1 missing
PURNEA, June 25 -- At least five girls, including four sisters, drowned while taking a bath in the Ganga river in Shyampur Bakchapra village of Bihar's Munger district on Wednesday morning, police said, adding all bodies were fished out within five hours into the search and rescue operation.
Police said Sangeeta Kumari (18), Vinita Kumari (16), Sandhya Kumari (14) and Sonam Kumari (12), all daughters of Kranti Paswan, and Heena Kumari (19) daughter of Chamak Lal Paswan, along with another local girl had gone to Bakchapra Ganga Ghat to take a dip in the Ganga.
One of the girls waded into deep waters and five others were swept away by strong currents trying to save her.
On information, teams from Muffasil police station reached the spot to rescue the girls.
Besides local divers, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) had been pressed for their rescue.
Muffasil station house officer (SHO) Bipin Kumar told Hindustan Times over the phone, "The incident took place around 8 am and the rescue operation started around 9 am. All five bodies were fished out within five hours."
"Meanwhile, a search operation continues for one more girl," he added....
