Motorcyclist run over by SUV dies, driver arrested in East Champaran
BETTIAH, July 6 -- A motorcyclist died and his pillion rider sustained critical injuries after an SUV allegedly hit their them in Bihar's East Champaran district on Saturday night.
Though the vehicle has been seized, police have not yet disclosed the identity of its owner.
Govindganj SHO Raju Kumar said the SUV, headed to Patna from West Champaran side, crushed the two near Pashupatinath Chowk on Bettiah-Hajipur stretch of State Highway 74 around 10 pm. "The vehicle has been seized and its driver has been arrested for rash and reckless driving," he said.
Police, however, are tight-lipped about the owner of the vehicle.
"We have forwarded the matter to traffic police station. The owner of the vehicle has not been known yet," said the SHO. The driver, Nitesh Tiwari, has been arrested, police said.
The traffic police station at Motihari was yet to register a case at the time of filing this report.
"The victim, Pancham Kumar Ram, and his pillion rider Sumant Prasad who sustained grievous injuries in the accident were returning from Mananpur in Govindganj to their native village at Jarenwa under Areraj police station when they were hit by the speeding SUV," Areraj SDPO Ravi Kumar said....
