Mock drills for air strikes, war in six districts of Bihar today
PATNA, May 14 -- Mock drills will be held in six districts of Bihar on Thursday (today) to prepare for emergencies like air strikes and wartime attacks, officials said. Organised by the disaster management and civil defence, the exercise will include citywide blackout.
Authorities have urged citizens not to panic during such rehearsals.
On the directive of MHA, air strike and blackout related mock drills will be organised in six districts, including Patna, Kishanganj, Begusarai, Purnia, Araria and Katihar.
There will be six different types of mock drills during this period. With the siren sounding at 7 o'clock in the evening, the lights will off for 15 minutes. During this time, the general public has also been appealed to participate in the mock drill by extinguishing all kinds of lights in and outside their houses.
At the state level, the Directorate of Civil Defence has been created as the nodal agency for the successful conduct of these drills.
On Wednesday, the Principal Secretary of the Department of Disaster Management, Santosh Kumar Mall, and the Director General of the Directorate of Civil Defence, Paresh Saxena, organised a table top exercise through video-conferencing with the disaster management functionaries of the concerned districts.
Mall appealed to the general public not to panic during the blackout between 7 pm and 07:15 pm on Thursday. "Do not run the generator in the apartment during the blackout. Do not use a mobile screen, torch or any other light source to help create a complete blackout," Mall said.
He directed the DMs to ensure arrangement of sirens in the respective districts and coordinate with the power department for blackouts....
