PATNA, Aug. 8 -- An angry mob ransacked a police outpost and set fire to two parked police vehicles, a bus, and several motorcycles after a youth was crushed to death by a passenger bus on the National Highway-30 zero mile under Agamkuan police station on Friday morning. Police identified the deceased as Manish Kumar (26), a resident of Choti Pahari. The accident occurred around 9 am while he was trying to cross the road near the Pahari pump house, which falls within the Agamkuan police station limits. Passengers and passengers of the offending private coach bus immediately got out of the vehicle and fled. The bus was traveling from Patna to Biharsharif. According to locals, Manish was attempting to cross the road with his brother Sachin and died on the spot after being run over by the bus. Agitated over the incident, some people damaged the windowpanes of several passing vehicles, attacked commuters, beat up journalists and pelted stones at policemen. Soon, a large number of people gathered at the spot and blocked the NH-30. They set ablaze several vehicles, including police vehicles. Windowpanes of several vehicles were also shattered. The accident caused chaos on the NH-30, leading to a 10-km traffic jam where several buses and trucks were stuck for about two hours. As the situation went out of control, additional police forces were called from the police line and they chased away the protesters. Only then the situation was brought under control and traffic returned to normalcy around 12 noon. City Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) Satyam Sahay along with other police officers reached the spot to assess the situation. He said that the body was removed from the road and sent for postmortem. Patna City ASP-1 Rajkishore Singh said, "After the accident, the administration paid compensation for the last rites and everything was peaceful. However, some nearby villagers, who had no connection with the accident victim, suddenly started protesting and vandalism ensued, with damages to several vehicles. The CCTV footage is being examined to identify those involved in the mayhem."...
