MLA joins Jan Suraaj's nomination, irks JD(U)
PATNA, Oct. 2 -- JD(U) MLA from Mokama Anant Kumar Singh on Thursday accompanied Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh for filing of nomination papers for the Bihar legislative council elections in a clear defiance of the party.
JD(U) has fielded three-term MLC Neeraj Kumar from the Patna graduate seat, but the revolting stand of Anant Singh and his open backing to Anuj Singh has made it uncomfortable for the party, which has so far failed to settle the issue.
It was a say when many candidates filed their nomination, including Neeraj Kumar and Anuj Singh, which has suddenly become a talking point due to JD(U) infighting.
"I don't know what the party line is in this matter. I also fought election and Neeraj Kunar worked against me in the past, but the party never tried to convince him. He has opposed me always and now this time I will make sure that he gets defeated. The voters will decide," said Singh, whose supporters chanted slogans in praise of former CM Nitish Kumar and union minister Rajiv Ranjan alias Lalan Singh.
Anant Singh and Neeraj Kumar came face to face in the 2015 assembly election. While Singh fought as an independent candidate, Neeraj Kumar's was the JD(U) candidate. However, Singh won the seat easily.
While extending support to the official party candidate, JD(U) leaders say that the matter is under the consideration of the party leadership, but Singh has been unstoppable in his attack on Neeraj. "The party will look into the matter," said Bihar minister Ashok Choudhary.
Neeraj Kumar said that he was the candidate of Nitish Kumar's party JD(U) and the legacy would be his strength yet again.
"My party workers cutting across caste and creed have made voters who stick with us. Even for party meetings, I don't have to pay anything. This is an election for graduate seat and only graduates could become proposers," he said in an apparent dig at Anant Singh.
He said that the combination of Samrat Choudhary and Nishant Kumar would script a new tale of success for the NDA.
Of the eight seats going to polls, BJP and the JD(U) have fielded four each. At present, BJP has two sitting MLCs while JD(U) has one....
