MBBS student among 2 dead in suicide cases
PATNA, April 26 -- Two people, including a female MBBS student, allegedly died by suicide in separate incidents reported in Kishanganj and Jamui districts, police said on Saturday.
The second-year MBBS student, a 24-year-old woman, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at the MGM College in Kishanganj late Friday. Following an alert from hostel management, police rushed to the hostel and sent the body for autopsy to government hospital. The police registered a case relating to unnatural death at the Kishanganj police station and said they are trying to investigate the reason that drove the young woman to commit suicide.
"The victim was a resident of Bhojpur and was found hanging in her hostel room," said the SDPO Mangalesh Kumar.
"An FSL team arrived at the spot, videographed the scene, collected pictures of the spot and collected samples," he said. He added that the police sealed her room for further investigation.Given the seriousness of the matter, Kishanganj SP Santosh Kumar and DM Vishal Raj also arrived at the spot and instructed officials to investigate from all possible aspects.
Police are questioning the student's classmates, hostel colleagues and the college administration to ascertain the cause of the incident.
"The police, which is currently investigating the case from all angles, can only reveal the cause once the postmortem report is available," said the SP.
In another case, a Class 10 student of a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Barhat in Jamui, allegedly died by suicide by hanging himself on the school premises.
JNV teacher Ajay Kumar said the victim had been studying at the school since Class 6 and was a very meritorious student. He had gone to Assam for migraine treatment in 2025 and returned in 2026. He came back to school only last Sunday.
Principal Sujit Kumar said, "I took charge on April 1 this year. According to preliminary information, the student was living alone and seemingly was under some mental or family pressure, although this will be confirmed after investigation."
Police said that the victim was the son of a government school teacher and a resident of Phulparia village in the Barhat police station area.
After the incident, the family members blocked Kuchcheri Road after placing the body on the road. They raised slogans against the administration.
The deceased's father, who reached Sadar Hospital after being informed of the incident, refused to make any comment, saying, "I am a teacher myself and do not want to tarnish the image of the JNV."...
