PATNA, July 21 -- A motorcycle borne assailant allegedly gunned down a Class 12 student while she was on way to the school on the outskirts of Tejia-Vishnupur village under Vaini police station limits in Bihar's Samastipur district on Monday, police said, adding the girl's family claimed she turned down his marriage proposal. According to police, the victim, a student of Kasturba Gandhi High School, was walking while talking on her mobile phone when the assailant intercepted, approached and fired multiple rounds at her. She died of gunshot injuries on the spot before help could arrive. After receiving information, police reached the spot. A Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team was also called to examine the crime scene. Police recovered four cartridges from the spot and started investigating the matter. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from nearby areas, collecting forensic evidence and questioning residents to establish the sequence of events. Additional SP Sanjay Kumar Pandey said, "We received information that a schoolgirl was shot dead near her house. The girl sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Her mother and family have provided crucial information and the accused has been identified. An SIT is being constituted and police are conducting raids to arrest him." "We saw three wounds on the girl's body which has now been sent for post-mortem," he added. Meanwhile, preliminary investigation revealed that the accused is a resident of the same village and was allegedly harassing her for a long time and pressurising her to marry him. She had on several occasions refused his advances. The victim's mother said, "My daughter was killed by one Bablu Gupta. He had threatened her several times before this incident.The man had been harassing her for the past four-five months and threatened to kill her if she did not marry him. Yesterday, he again threatened her on the phone and murdered my daughter today." Reacting to the incident, RJD MP Misa Bharti alleged that the state government had failed to maintain law and order in Bihar. "This is the 'mangal raj' under the double-engine government in Bihar. Such incidents are happening daily. The government is indifferent towards these incidents," she told reporters in Patna....
