BHABUA, May 27 -- The special Pocso court of 6th District and Additional Sessions Judge Pramod Kumar Pandey, sentenced a man to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) for abducting and raping a 13-year-old girl. The court also imposed a Rs.60,000 fine on him and an additional nine months RI in case of non-payment, officials said on Tuesday. According to prosecution, the man, a resident of Pakri village under the Kochas police station area in adjacent Rohtas district, had abducted the minor from a village under Mohania police station area on January 20, 2025, and subjected her to rape. Due to sustained pressure from the police, the perpetrator, with the assistance of his family members, repeatedly shifted the survivor from one location to another. Ultimately, the police rescued the victim from the perpetrator's house and brought her to Mohania Police Station, where a case was registered. Police submitted a charge-sheet under sections 87 (abduction) and 64 (2) (aggravated rape) of BNS and section 4 of Pocso Act. Special Public Prosecutor Shashibhushan Pandey said that the prosecution produced seven witnesses as well as documentary and scientific evidence to prove the crime. After reviewing the evidence, the court found the accused guilty. Consequently, the court sentenced him to five years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000 under BNS section 87, with an additional three months of imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine and to 20 years of imprisonment and a fine of Rs.50,000 under BNS section 64(2) and section 4 of the Pocso Act and an additional six months of imprisonment in case of non-payment of the fine. All sentences will run concurrently. Furthermore, taking into consideration the victim's age and her physical and mental condition, and acting out of humanitarian concern, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority to pay her a compensation of Rs.400,000....
