Lalu delivers motivational speech to party workers, says 'our fight must continue'
PATNA, July 2 -- Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday delivered a pep talk to workers of his party by exhorting them to continue to fight and champion the cause of the poor as well as party's ideologies and principles at an event at the state RJD office organised ahead of the party's 30th foundation day celebrations across the state on July 5th.
The RJD chief, who is ailing, was present at the event attended by all top RJD leaders including party's national working president and opposition leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav.
"We must remember RJD is known for putting up a fight and our fight must continue", said Prasad, in a bid to boost the morale of the party which suffered a huge drubbing in the assembly polls last year, when it won only 25 seats of the 243-strong House, in his brief address.
Party officials said the event was organised as a part of the upcoming foundation day on July 5th when programmes would be held in all district headquarters by the party leaders and workers. The RJD was founded on July 5th , 1997 following a split in the old Janata Dal after Prasad's name came up in the multi crore fodder scam which broke in 1996.
In his address, opposition leader Tejashwi said the party's workers and leaders should be focused on strengthening the organisational structure of the party by devoting time to address people's issues and also interact with grass root workers. Yadav also stressed the RJD having received over two crore votes in the last 2025 assembly polls has the duty to raise people's issues.
"RJD received over two crore votes indicating people's trust on us. There was lot of poll anomalies and manipulations, which led to our defeat," the opposition leader said.
Yadav also slammed the state government over the alleged rise in crime incidents and claimed that the government was slowly moving towards fiscal crisis with rising loans and lack of adequate funds for paying salaries and other committed expenditure. Yadav also stated that some of the recent incidents where police have claimed to have gunned down history sheeters in encounters were 'fake encounters'.
Among those who also addressed the event included senior leader and MLC, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, state RJD chief spokesperson Shakti Singh Yadav, MLAs and MLCs of the party and former MPs.
" On the occasion of foundation day on July 5th, Tejashwi will address many functions at the district level virtually from Patna. Many of party's top leaders would be attending the events at the district level," the RJD spokesperson said....
