Judicial officers ditch car, ride bicycles to court
AURANGABAD, May 15 -- Principal district and sessions judge (PD&SJ) Aurangabad along with judicial officers and staff arrived at the court on bicycles on Thursday to conserve fuel. Although no official statement was issued, the initiative follows Prime Minister Narendra Modi's appeal to reduce fuel consumption amid the West Asia crisis.
PD&SJ Rajiv Ranjan Kumar and principal judge family court Arun Kumar, followed by their staff members and bodyguards, cycled to the civil court around two kilometres from their official residences at Dani Bigha locality of the district headquarters. They arrived at the court at 7am as the court was holding a morning session in summer.
The move sparked curiosity among employees, lawyers and litigants at the court complex and public as they cycled through the main thoroughfares of Aurangabad. "The initiative sent a strong message to serve collective interests of the community and nation," said Aurangabad district bar association president Vijay Kumar Pandey who described it as a 'positive message' towards environmental protection and fuel conservation when the world is suffering from an unprecedented crisis....
