RANCHI, June 9 -- The Jharkhand High Court on Monday directed the state government and judicial authorities to submit progress reports regarding the ongoing inquiry into the alleged mistreatment of a female inmate at Birsa Munda Central Jail. A Division Bench of Chief Justice MS Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar reviewed the current status of the matter during an afternoon session, an HC advocate close to the matter said. "The court directed the state to produce the findings of the medical board that examined the inmate. Simultaneously, the Bench also directed the judicial commissioner of Ranchi to share the report compiled by a judicial magistrate, who was previously tasked with conducting an independent review of the situation," the advocate said. The directives follow the submission of affidavits by DGP Tadasha Mishra and IG, Prisons,Sudarshan Kumar Mandal. The Bench indicated that the details provided by the police administration so far lacked sufficient clarity and directed officials to ensure a thorough disclosure of facts. The HC initially took independent notice of the situation on May 22 during its summer recess. The matter was brought to attention following a communication from LoP Babulal Marandi, who cited reports concerning the welfare of the female prisoner while in custody. In response to the initial findings, two separate inquiries were set in motion, a three-member panel composed of senior police officials, and an independent assessment by a District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) team led by judicial magistrate Shruti Soren. The Bench has scheduled the next session for June 17 to review the requested medical records and independent administrative reports....
