Jharkhand HC puts brake on promotion of SIs to Inspectors
RANCHI, May 14 -- The Jharkhand High Court stayed the promotion of police sub inspectors (SIs) to the rank of inspectors across the state.
The single bench order was passed by Justice Deepak Roshan during the hearing of a writ petition filed by Uttam Tiwari and others against the State of Jharkhand, people aware of the development said on Wednesday.
A high court advocate close to the matter informed that the controversy stemmed from the seniority list prepared for two separate batches of SIs recruited in 2017. The batches included the 'Direct Recruit Batch' appointed under Advertisement No. 05/17 and the 'Limited Exam Batch' appointed under Advertisement No. 09/17.
"Advocate Manoj Tandon, representing the petitioners, argued before the court that the advertisement for directly recruited SIs was released first. Despite this sequence, the department placed the limited departmental batch ahead of the direct recruits in the seniority list. Contesting this decision, Tiwari and others moved the HC through a writ petition. After hearing the initial submissions, the court issued notices to the state respondents and implemented an immediate interim stay on advancements," the advocate said.
"Since the issue of promotion is involved, no further promotion should be granted in view of Annexure-11 to the writ applications, till the next date of hearing," the order reads.
Next hearing in the case will take place on July 21....
