RANCHI, Aug. 12 -- Majority of schools and business establishments in Ranchi remained closed and vehicular movement on roads was limited during the BJP-sponsored statewide bandh called to protest Monday's police action against agitating students. The impact of the shutdown was visible since morning when commercial hubs and markets in Ranchi wore a deserted look as traders voluntarily kept their shutters down or were forced to close by enforcement groups. State transport buses and private operators suspended services, leaving hundreds of daily commuters, office-goers, and schoolchildren stranded at various terminuses. Auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws also stayed off the roads. The administration intensified security protocols. Heavy police deployment was witnessed across the capital.
