Jharkhand: Three die in lightning strikes
Jamshedpur, June 13 -- Three persons, including two from East Singhbhum district, died from lightning strikes in Jharkhand while six bovine animals were also killed in the Dumuria Block of East Singhbhum district. This occurred amid an IMD orange alert for heavy downpour, lightning, and thunderstorms gusting at 50-60 kmph on Saturday in 20 districts of the state, officials said on Friday.
"30-year-old Dhanu Hembram of Dumuria died from a lightning strike late Thursday evening while 23-year-old Muskan Pan died from a lightning strike in Hesalbil village of Potka Block in East Singhbhum district. 18-year-old Arjun Karmali also died after being hit by lightning during the heavy thunderstorm on Thursday at Honhetand in Ramgarh district," a disaster management department official said on Friday.
"Dhanu Hembram died when lightning struck his house in Phuljhari village under Dumuria Block on Thursday evening. His wife, mother and 14-year-old brother also sustained burn injuries. Four bulls and two goats also died from lightning strikes at Kaliyam village under Kendua panchayat of Dumuria Block during the thunderstorm on Thursday," local youth leader Uday Murmu told the media on Friday.
In another incident, 23-year-old Muskan Pan, wife of Sanjay Hansda, died after being hit by lightning while returning home from a neighbor's house at Hesalbil village in Potka Block of East Singhbhum district. She was rushed to the local community health centre (CHC) where doctors declared her brought dead.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy thunderstorms and strong winds gusting at 50-60 kmph in 20 districts of the state for Saturday afternoon....
