PATNA, Oct. 27 -- Janata Dal (United) on Sunday sought immediate termination of membership of the expelled Mokama MLA Anant Singh and also removed his wife Neelam Devi from a key party panel by virtue of which she was enjoying status of a state minister. Moreover, the party asked her to vacate the official residence. The JD(U) moved against Singh even as the results of the legislative council polls are to be announced today (Tuesday). Singh, according to an official JD(U) order, has been wreaked for breaching party discipline by backing a rival candidate of Jan Suraaj Party against JD(U)'s nominee Neeraj Kumar. Both Singh and Devi have been eviscerated from the party for a period of six years. Party's state president Umesh Kushwaha on Monday went to the state assembly to meet speaker Prem Kumar with party's recommendation for Singh's disqualification. "As the assembly speaker was not present, we met his secretary and he has said that the process (to disquaify Singh) was on. We submitted a detailed letter with all the evidences of anti-party activities of Anant Singh on Sunday itself," said Kushwaha. Kushwaha asserted that distinguished legacy of former CM and party supremo Nitish Kumar will continue to serve as the bedrock of the JD(U)'s political fortunes. "It became evident in the 2025 assembly elections when sceptics bit the dust and JD(U) proved their misgivings futile by its stupendous success," he added. He slammed Singh, accusing him of using foul language against own party colleagues. "The way Anant Singh campaigned against our party in the elections is not hidden from anyone and the kind of language he used against our leader did not leave any room for the party to retain him. His membership of the assembly will also go soon," he added. Singh's wife Neelam has also been removed from the 20-Point Programme Implementation Committee, a pivotal body. Its membership had conferred a state minister status on Neelam with several privileges reserved for the post, including an official residence. She was on Monday asked by the sate government to vacate this official bungalow. According to a letter issued by the Building Construction Department, the residence number-01 located on Mall Road in Patna must be vacated by November 25, 2026. The run-in of Singh with his own party began when with the start of the campaign for the Council polls, he announced that he would work to ensure defeat of party's nominee for Patna graduates' seat, Neeraj Kumar, a three-time MLC. He said that he sought personal vengeance against Kumar, who, he accused, worked against his political prospects in Mokama constituency and that Kumar also framed him in an arms case. The JD(U), however, was peeved when the Singh-Kumar feud generated media attention and Singh's media bytes added fuel to the fire. Union minister and senior leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh was appointed to mediate truce. It, however, didn't work and the bickering continued. Even on Sunday, a day after his expulsion, Singh remained defiant and said that certain party leaders were taking the JD(U) towards political doom. He also hinted that he might float his own party and in case of bypoll in Mokama, he or his son will be in fray....
