JD(U) claims membership milestone of over 1 crore in less than 6 months
PATNA, June 4 -- The Janata Dal (United) has claimed to have achieved the first target of making more than one crore primary members under 'JD(U) membership campaign 2025-28', launched by the party's national president Nitish Kumar on December 6, 2025.
Party working president and Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Kumar Jha said the milestone had been achieved in less than six months, which spoke volumes about the respect Nitish Kumar, who was CM of Bihar for a record 10 times spanning two decades, commanded due to his untiring efforts to pull Bihar out of the dark age.
"As on June 2, 2026, the total number of primary members of the party has reached 1,00,01,925," said Jha, congratulating all the workers actively engaged in making the membership campaign, being run up to the booth level, successful. He also posted the information on social media early morning.
"I am sincerely grateful to all the people of the state for giving an encouraging response to this campaign. Under the guidance of our popular leader Nitish Kumar, the party is determined and committed to serve the Bihar family and continuously live up to the expectations of the people of the state," he added.
The JD(U)'s membership campaign is part of a broader plan to strengthen and extend the organisation, as it gears up for generational shift under Nitish Kumar's son Nishant Kumar after a commanding show in the 2014 Lok Sabha and 2025 Assembly polls just when the Doubting Thomases had started writing its epitaph after it got relegated to third position in 2020.
The milestone has been achieved by the party just ahead of the scheduled meeting of its national executive committee on June 21, where organisational matters and future strategies are expected to be discussed.
JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha said the success was yet another endorsement of Nitish Kumar and his brand of politics. "I thank workers associated with the campaign, but it is the face of Nitish Kumar that makes the job easier. The target has been set under his guidance and we have reached here," he added.
Nitish Kumar, who regularly visits the JD(U) office these days, also visited the party office during the day. "He keeps coming to take stock of the party activities and meet workers. His presence is an energiser for all of us," said Kushwaha.
