Jamshedpur Bindal Mall firing: Shooter detained in Chandigarh
RANCHI, Oct. 6 -- Jamshedpur Police detained a shooter in the high-profile Bindal Mall restaurant firing case, from Chandigarh, people aware of the development said on Monday.
A police official close to the matter said the shooter was detained on Sunday night and is being brought to Jamshedpur for interrogation.
"The shooter will be formally arrested in Jamshedpur after proper identification, verification, and interrogation," the police official said.
No senior police officials were available to officially confirm the breakthrough.
The incident occurred on Saturday when a group of armed assailants entered a popular restaurant inside Bindal Mall, located under the Sonari police station jurisdiction. The attackers opened indiscriminate fire, discharging 11 rounds into the establishment. The sudden shooting left four people seriously injured, who were immediately rushed to Tata Main Hospital for treatment.
A police official close to the matter said in response to the public shooting, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) led by the City SP was swiftly formed to track down the perpetrators. The one detained in Chandigarh is suspected as main shooters.
"Utilising extensive CCTV footage from the mall and complex technical intelligence inputs, the SIT successfully traced the location of the shooter to Chandigarh. A team coordinated the detention in the union territory and is currently bringing the prime accused back to Jamshedpur for rigorous interrogation," the official said.
The pressure on the local police to resolve the case had reached the highest levels. During a recent high-level visit to the region, the Director General of Police (DGP) took strict stock of the law and order situation. The DGP had issued explicit directives to the city police force to crack the case without delay and apprehend every individual involved in the conspiracy.
Prior to this detention, the Jamshedpur Police SIT had arrested four key conspirators from Chhattisgarh who provided logistical support and a getaway vehicle. Initial investigations suggest the violent attack was rooted in personal enmity. With a shooter now in police detention, authorities expect to unearth the complete details of the operation....
