PATNA, June 2 -- Rabri Devi, former Bihar chief minister and wife of RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, has refused to vacate her official 10, Circular Road bungalow even after being served notice thrice, allegedly due to "superstition," people aware of such details have claimed. The RJD leader has been allotted a new bungalow at 39 Hardinge Road but refuses to move to the new residence. People claiming to know Rabri's side of the story said her family considers the new bungalow inauspicious because it is believed that those who occupied it in the past saw their political careers decline. People cite examples of several political leaders who were allotted the 39 Hardinge Road bungalow and subsequently plummeted in politics, never to rise again. Among them are Bhupendra Prasad Verma (RJD, who never again became minister), Madan Mohan Jha (Congress, his career spiralled downwards), Shamim Ahmed (RJD, he had to quit his ministerial post and never became one again), Chandra Mohan Rai (BJP, a former health minister who was later sidelined by his party), Vinod Narayan Jha (BJP, he also didn't become a minister again) and Ram Surat Rai (BJP, his political career became sluggish and he couldn't even secure an election ticket). These examples, according to people claiming to know the reasons for Rabri's refusal, are preventing the former CM from moving into the new residence. They also claim that a tomb is inside the 39 Hardinge Road residence, causing Rabri and her family to turn away from it. Meanwhile, the ruling BJP took a dig at the former CM. "There is an old mausoleum near the bungalow, a mosque on the back and Haj Bhavan on the other side," said BJP state spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel, adding, "If this will not suit the Lalu family then what will be pleasant for them?" referring to the RJD's Muslim vote bank. Shahnawaz Hussain, senior BJP leader, said, "Change the place, maybe your fate will change. Ever since Rabri Devi went to that residence (10, Circular Road), the RJD's performance has been falling." RJD state spokesperson Aijaz Ahmed, however, refused any superstition angle behind Rabri not shifting to the new bungalow. The building construction department recently sent a reminder notice for the third time to Rabri Devi to vacate the bungalow, but Rabri has taken a strong stand and made it clear that she will not leave the house under any circumstances. After receiving the notice, Rabri Devi challenged the government, stating that she will not vacate the house no matter how much police force the government deploys. She has been residing in the 10 Circular Road's bungalow since 2006....
