PATNA, May 19 -- Bihar's Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is making efforts to ensure investigation-related work will be carried out digitally in the next six months. Charge sheet, final report, first information report, etc. will be submitted only through an online system once it is made fully digital, ADG Parash Nath said on Monday. "Our Investigating Officers digitally carry out investigation. The use of digital apps for crime related investigation will be increased at multiple levels, along with updating data and establishing a complete system of online monitoring, he added. Portals and apps are being used for quality investigation and proper training is being provided to officers for their effective use, said ADG, adding that currently, 968 police stations are connected with CCTNS out of 1,300 police stations. In January this year, the number of FIRs registered on CCTNS was 26,335, which increased to 26,981 in April. Similarly, the number of charge sheets rose from 26,660 in January to 37,631 in April. Case diary entries also increased to 1,14,552 in April from 54,465 in January 2026. The e-Sakshya portal is used to maintain the integrity and transparency of electronic records collected during the investigations. Documents of 68,844 cases have been uploaded on it between January to April this year. Similarly, it is also mandatory to enter the complete details and photographs of missing or victimised children under Mission Vatsalya portal so that they can be easily traced. E-Prisons is an online prison management system through which all activities related to prisons and inmates are managed and recorded using computers, said the ADG, adding that the ICJS (Inter-Operable Criminal Justice System) helps coordinate among all five key departments - courts, police department, FSL, hospitals, and others - making coordination easier. In addition, NAFIS (National Automated Fingerprint Identification System), developed by the National Crime Records Bureau, is a web-based fingerprint identification system used to collect fingerprints of criminals or suspects so they can be digitally matched during investigations.
