Intelligent traffic mgmt system to tackle congestion
PATNA, May 3 -- The state transport department is actively moving ahead with plans to implement an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) across Patna and other major towns in the state. The initiative comes after conventional measures, including road widening and construction of bypasses on heavily congested stretches like Bailey Road and Ashok Rajpath, failed to deliver lasting relief from daily traffic snarls.
Development commissioner Mihir Kumar Singh chaired a key stakeholder meeting at Visvesvaraya Bhawan, where transport secretary Raj Kumar and other senior officials discussed the proposed project with experts and industry representatives. As many as 42 companies from India and abroad, including OEMs, system integrators and AI-based technology firms, participated in the meeting and expressed strong interest following the expression of interest (EOI) floated by the department.
Officials said the ITMS project aimed to create a smart, technology-driven traffic ecosystem that would use advanced tools such as ANPR cameras, adaptive traffic signals, AI-powered monitoring and an integrated command and control centre....
