INDIA bloc to hold statewide stirs against SIR, CEC on Oct 7 & 8: LoP
PATNA, Oct. 6 -- Leader of Opposition in the Bihar assembly Tejashwi Prasad Yadav on Monday announced that all the constituents of the INDIA bloc will hold "Akrosh March" at block levels across Bihar on October 7. The Opposition bloc will also stage demonstrations at district levels on October 8 and organise a march towards the Lok Bhavan here on the same day to protest against the functioning of the poll panel, he said.
Addressing a presser along with other opposition party leaders, Yadav accused the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, home minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi of playing the big game of conducting the SIR in a deliberate attempt to influence elections in states in past few years to help the BJP win the polls by manipulating the electoral rolls.
Yadav also accused the CEC of working at the behest of PM Modi and home minister Shah and claimed that the central poll panel had worked in a partial manner in conducting the SIR. "PM Modi and home minister Shah have used Gyanesh Kumar for manipulation of the electoral rolls. The rules were tweaked for the CEC to give him immunity from being arrested or face any case during discharge of his duties in his stint in the central poll panel," Yadav alleged.
The RJD national working president said the media reports that two election commissioners differed with the CEC 14 times in last 10 months over the process of SIR has corroborated the allegations levelled by him and other Opposition parties that the SIR in Bihar and other states was done to influence elections in states for helping the BJP.
"Names of people were struck off. In my constituency, people alive were declared as dead and their names were struck off. We presented the so called 'dead voters' in the Supreme Court too. From the very beginning of SIR that started in Bihar first, we have been saying that there is a big conspiracy to influence polls. Now, our allegations are coming true with the recent media reports highlighting the way election commission has functioned," Yadav said.
"Even the time for keeping election records was reduced to 45 days instead of one year so that there is no evidence of the election process post polls," Yadav said.
The Opposition leader highlighted that in the recent meeting of INDIA bloc partners in New Delhi, a consensus emerged that there would be series of protests and other programmes from October 2 to October 8 to demand resignation of CEC, the alleged manipulation in SIR and also to save democracy in the country.
"We will stage dharna in Patna on October 8 and later march to the Lok Bhawan and meet the Governor. We are seeking time from the Governor for the same," said Yadav.
The RJD leader also said that there would be one rally against SIR as part of the INDIA bloc's nationwide campaign against the way electoral rolls were prepared in the SIR drive. Yadav also alleged that the assembly polls in Bihar and West Bengal, where lakhs of voters were deleted during the roll revision, were "fraudulent".
Meanwhile, the CPI-ML( Liberation) on Monday announced that it will field student leader Sandeep Chaudhary from the Darbhanga Graduates constituency of the Bihar legislative council, where INDIA bloc partners Congress and RJD are also in the fray....
