PATNA, Sept. 5 -- The Union government has decided to setup an immigration center at Jaynagar railway station in Madhubani district on the Jaynagar-Kurtha rail section near the Indian border to monitor and screen passengers on the Indo-Nepal international rail network, said a senior official of government rail police (GRP) on Thursday. The immigration post will collect/gather computerised database of travellers entering the country or going out of the country. It will also help in preventing illegal infiltration, arms or drug trafficking and unwanted activities through train from Nepal. The information was shared by the police headquarters (PHQ) This was discussed during a State Level Security Committee of Railways (SLSCR) meeting held in the police headquarters. The meeting was chaired by DGP Vinay Kumar, DG (special branch) Kundan Krishnan, ADG (Rail) Kamal Kishore Singh and Principal Chief Security Commissioners of different railway zones. The Jaynagar-Kurtha section consists of eight stations, Jaynagar in India, Inarwa (border station in Nepal), Khajuri, Mahinathpur, Baidehi, Parwaha, Janakpur and Kurtha. Till 2014, this was an existing rail service on a metre-gauge rail link between Jaynagar and Janakpur. The facility of railway immigration posts is available at selected railway stations from where trains to other countries run. There is a provision for mutual travel without visa-passport for Indian and Nepali citizens on this railway route but for other foreign nationals, fully international immigration clearance facility is not available so far. The decision taken for immigration post after the new rail section built from Jayanagar to Innerwa in Nepal was notified by the Bihar Home Department. In the SLSCR meeting, a joint safety audit of nearby rail routes including Jayanagar-Inerwa has also been decided. During the safety audit, variable mapping of bridges, culverts, villages etc. built on the rail section will be ensured. In the meeting, GRP was decided to send the proposal to notify six new rail blocks to the state government. These include Ara-Sasaram, Hajipur-Vaishali, Saraigarh-Nirmali, Danianwa-Bihar Sharif, Rajgir-Tilaiya and Duraundha-Maharajganj rail routes. "When notified, these new rail routes will be connected to the Indian railway network, so that the safety and security of the passengers can be made easier. In the meeting, several points regarding the safety of railway passengers and security of their properties were discussed," said ADG Railways Kamal Kishore Singh. India on in 2021 had handed over the 34.9km-long cross-border rail link connecting Jaynagar in Bihar to Kurtha in Nepal to the Nepal government, a move that was to enhance trade and commerce activities between the two countries....
