ARARIA, April 10 -- In a horrific incident in Bihar's Araria, a 42-year-old pick-up van driver was beheaded allegedly by a 30-year-old roadside sattu vendor who was later beaten to death by a mob in full public view on Thursday morning. The deceased whose head was severed has been identified as Mohammad Nabi Hussain, a resident of Amona falling under the jurisdiction of Jogbani police station in Araria. The accused allegedly left the head and torso lying on the road and escaped which created a sensation in the locality and people gathered at the scene. They later caught the accused, identified as Rahul Chauhan, and beat him to death. According to Jitendra Kumar, SP of Araria district (headquartered at Forbesganj), the incident took place in the morning when Nabi Hussain, who drove a pick-up vehicle, quarreled with Ravi Chauhan. "Chauhan used to sell sattu (roasted gram flour) at a local market where he picked up a quarrel with Hussain and attacked him with a dagger, which police have seized," the SP said. He added, "Onlookers caught hold of Chauhan and thrashed him until a police party, which rushed to the spot upon hearing about the incident, rescued him. Chauhan was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to injuries. The bodies of both the deceased have been sent for post-mortem examination. Further investigations were on". Sub divisional police officer (SDPO) Mukesh Kumar Saha said, "Police have started investigating the incident from multiple angles including a parking dispute. He, however, said that police forces have been put on high alert to avert further violence. Some locals said that there was a dispute between the two over an "illicit affair" and the sattu vendor killed truck driver in a fit of rage over that. Police said that they have started probing the incident and deployed heavy police forces sensing the gravity of the incident. "As the incident involves two different communities, the matter is serious," a police officer said without disclosing his identity. Meanwhile, images of Hussain's severed head, lying on the street, apparently captured by onlookers on their phones, have gone viral on social media. One such image was shared on X by the Leader of the opposition, Tejashwi Yadav. Yadav slammed the government for the "horrific state of affairs" in Bihar and described the NDA rule as "a messed-up regime." "A man publicly slit another man's throat in the middle of the market and roamed around with his severed head amid hundreds of people.
