BETTIAH, April 13 -- Intensifying its crackdown on the liquor mafia in the wake of the recent hooch tragedy in East Champaran, police arrested Uttar Pradesh-based Satish Chand Choudhary, owner of SS Chemical Company in Ghaziabad, for allegedly supplying the spirit that claimed 11 lives in the district earlier this month, police said on Sunday. In a video message shared in a WhatsApp group comprising police personnel and media representatives, East Champaran SP Swarn Prabhat on Sunday said Choudhary, a resident of Sukarauli village in Basti district of Uttar Pradesh, was arrested from Lucknow. "He has been brought to Motihari and subjected to a sustained interrogation where he confessed that the spirit supplied by his firm was used in the preparation of spurious spirit that proved fatal," the SP said. Police have also found the evidences with regard to the financial transaction. Further investigation was underway, he added. The development came days following the arrest of kingpin Lavkush Yadav of Sabaiya village under Kotwa police station in East Champaran on April 9, who described him as a key supplier of spirit allegedly used in the manufacture of spurious liquor responsible for the deaths.
