HC restrains media from using 'kingpin, scamster'
PATNA, June 30 -- The Patna high court has restrained media from imputing guilt like mastermind, scamster, kingpin or equivalent description conveying criminal responsibility while reporting on the tender scandal in Bihar.
"Pending consideration of the present petition all print, electronic, digital and social media platforms shall be at liberty to report the factual developments concerning the case and proceedings before competent courts. However, none of the above would: describe the petitioner as guilty of the offences alleged or portray the petitioner as having committed the offences alleged," said the bench of Justice Ansul. The order passed on June 24 was uploaded on Friday.
The court restrained media trials based upon alleged confessions, investigation material, unproved document whose evidentiary value is yet to be determined, but observed that it was no in favour of a gag on media over the issue....
