RANCHI, Sept. 11 -- The Jharkhand High Court on Thursday directed the state government to recruit a chairperson and three members for the Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) within two months, people aware of the development said. A division bench comprising Chief Justice M S Sonak and Justice Rajesh Shankar gave the direction while hearing a public interest litigation (PIL) on the shortage of staff in the forest department. The court demanded a compliance report by November 18 ahead of the next scheduled hearing on November 19 this year. A high court advocate close to the matter informed about the court's direction. "As the JPSC advocate revealed that crucial recruitment has stopped due to a lack of chairman and members in JPSC, the court gave direction expressing its displeasure. The court verbally observed that a vital constitutional institution cannot be left crippled by vacancies, as it directly damages the career prospects of thousands of local job aspirants," the advocate said. JPSC advocate Sanjay Piprawall confirmed the order. "Direction has been given for the appointment of chairman and three members in two months. The direction was given while hearing an old PIL initiated by the court itself several years back," Piprawall said....
