Hasnain to take oath as 43rd Bihar Guv on Saturday
PATNA, March 13 -- Lt Gen (Rtd) Syed Ata Hasnain arrived here on Thursday. He was received at the airport by deputy CM Vijay Kumar Sinha, Legislative Assembly Speaker Prem Kumar, Legislative Council chairman and education minister Sunil Kumar. He will take oath as the 43rd Governor of Bihar on Saturday.
Hasnain was a member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).
He is also the former vice chancellor of Central University of Kashmir.
Arif Mohammad Khan served as Bihar Governor from January 2, 2025, to March 5, 2026. He had swapped position with former Bihar Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, who went to Kerala in his place.
Khan was appointed Governor of Kerala and served there for nearly five years and four months from September 6, 2019. He demitted Kerala Governor office on January 2, 2025 and took oath the same day in Bihar.
As per Article 155 and 156 of the Constitution , governors are appointed by the President, often for roughly five-year terms, but serve at the pleasure of the President.
According to highly placed sources, Khan was tipped for a cabinet berth at the Centre and that could be a reason why he was removed from Bihar while he was not even aware of.
"Khan had completed his five-year tenure in Kerala itself before he was shifted to Bihar. It is futile to hazard a guess behind his removal, as the President appointed governors to seven states and Lt governors to two Union territories on March 6," they said....
