Guv asks VCs to pick part-time college teachers in time-boundrecruitment
PATNA, June 2 -- Governor Lt Gen (Rtd.) Syed Ata Hasnain on Monday told the vice chancellors to ensure time-bound and quality appointment of qualified part-time faculty members under the new procedures to be laid down to ensure quality education both for the old institutions and the proposed degree colleges in the 211 uncovered blocks.
The Governor's directions came during a meeting with the VCs of all the state universities. Education minister Sanjay Singh Tiger, chief secretary Pratyaya Amrit, higher education secretary Rajiv Raushan and other officials were also present.
The move is significant as both the previous appointment processes for assistant professors stretched beyond five years, diluting the impact of recruitment due to regular attrition by way of retirement. The last process is yet to be concluded, as it got mired in a spate of controversies. According to FUTAB estimate, at present the universities are functioning at barely 40% of the sanctioned strength.
The Governor reviewed the status of proposed colleges, including availability of land, construction of buildings, arrangement of necessary infrastructure and appointment of faculty members. "The location of the colleges should be close to the block headquarters and all necessary safety standards should be followed," he added.
The Governor told the VCs to ensure regular classes, their monitoring, have regular dialogue with the students and pay attention to their problems....
