Govt may seek CBI probe in '16 cooperative society case
Dehradun, July 13 -- The state government has sought a report from the police headquarters on the fake cooperative society case and will then take decision on whether to write to the central government for the CBI investigation into the matter, a senior official said.
The operators of Loni Urban Multi-State Credit & Thrift Co-operative Society (LUCC), which has 35 branches in the state, duped a large number of people since 2016 by luring them to make investments in their cooperative society by promising them high returns, according to police.
"The issue was discussed in a recent meeting presided over by chief secretary Anand Bardhan. A report has been sought from the police headquarters over the same. Thereafter a decision will be taken whether to write or not to the Centre for CBI in a recent meeting," said Shailesh Bagauli, home secretary of the government.
Police said that eight cases have been registered against operators of the cooperative society in Dehradun, Pauri Garhwal, Tehri Garhwal, Uttarkashi, and Rudraprayag districts. At least a dozen have been arrested in these cases. A charge sheet has been submitted in the court and further investigation is being carried out by (CB-CID) Criminal Investigation Department (CID) unit of Dehradun.
In October last year, Pauri Garhwal police arrested five people associated with the cooperative society for duping people in the state. Pauri SSP Lokeshwar Singh had then said, "In Uttarakhand alone, they have failed to give a maturity amount of Rs.92 crore. We also detected transactions in their accounts from other states, that takes the due maturity amount to Rs.189 crore."...
