PATNA, Aug. 21 -- In a major push to strengthen public school education and foster holistic student development, the Bihar government on Thursday launched the "One Officer-One Model School" initiative. During a high-level review of state education department held at the 'Sankalp' on Thursday, chief minister Samrat Choudhary issued comprehensive directives to elevate academic standards, modernize learning environments, and ensure administrative accountability across model schools (Saraswati Vidya Niketans) across the state. Under the new framework, administrative officials will directly be assigned responsibility for individual model schools to facilitate timely resolution of institutional issues. The chief minister mandated regular reviews, surprise inspections, and strict monitoring of teaching standards, teacher availability, and student attendance. To ensure transparent governance, daily reporting mechanisms will be established connecting schools directly with district and state headquarters. Emphasizing that school quality is defined by pedagogy and holistic development rather than infrastructure alone, the CM instructed institutions to conduct Parent-Teacher Meetings every three months. These quarterly interactions aim to foster consistent dialogue regarding students' academic progress and personal needs. Furthermore, schools were directed to build structured alumni engagement networks, allowing current students to gain guidance, inspiration, and practical insights from the achievements of former graduates. A primary focus of the reforms is bridging the opportunity gap for competitive national examinations. The state administration has resolved to provide students in government model schools with quality guidance, academic resources, and dedicated preparation for competitive exams including Joint Entrance Examination and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test. To complement classroom teaching, the government is expanding digital education through the Bihar School Examination Board's (BSEB) 24x7 interactive digital learning and e-learning platform. Authorities were directed to onboard more students and optimize digital channels to deliver quality study materials, modern teaching tools, and expert mentoring. During the review, state Education Secretary Rajiv Raushan delivered a presentation detailing the academic arrangements across model schools, while BSEB Chairman Dr Thiyagarajan SM outlined progress on digital learning initiatives. He directed officials to further strengthen quality education and provide a better academic environment for students in government schools. Choudhary also emphasised increasing engagement with alumni of model schools. He directed the development of a system for regular meetings and guidance so that current students can benefit from the achievements and experiences of the former students....
