Haridwar, Oct. 11 -- With the festive season approaching, the Haridwar district administration has intensified its crackdown on adulterated dairy products and sweets. The Food Safety Department has launched a district-wide drive to curb the rampant use of substandard ingredients in the manufacture of paneer and sweets being sold ahead of Deepawali. Officials said that in just one week, over 300 kilograms of spurious paneer and 80 kilograms of adulterated sweets, including gulab jamun, rasgulla, and dodha burfi, have been seized and destroyed during raids conducted across various areas of the district. According to Roorkee Joint Magistrate Deepak Raj Chandra Seth, a major raid was conducted on Thursday night at Mundet village in Manglaur, where a large-scale operation producing fake paneer was uncovered. "Acting on a tip-off, a joint team of officials followed a vendor who was supplying paneer on a makeshift rehdi (handcart). Upon reaching the site, the team discovered that skimmed milk powder and vegetable oil were being used instead of genuine milk to make paneer," he said. Seth added that the accused managed to escape taking advantage of the darkness. "Around 300 kilograms of spurious paneer were found at the spot and destroyed immediately. Samples have been sent to the Rudrapur-based laboratory for testing. A case has been registered against unknown persons involved in the illegal manufacturing," he said....
