Gaya Ji: 5 cops injured in sand mafia attack
GAYA JI, April 14 -- Five policemen, including a sub-inspector (SI), were injured and their vehicle was damaged in an alleged attack by sand mafia in Sindhugarh police station area of Gaya Ji district on Monday, police said.
Sindhugarh SHO Nilesh Kumar said that based on a tip-off regarding illegal sand mining in the Karma Road area, a police team led by SI Amit Kumar reached the location and intercepted a sand-laden tractor.
As the team initiated the tractor's seizure process, the driver allegedly dumped the sand and called his associates. Sand mafia argued that since the sand had been unloaded, there was no justification to seize the vehicle.
The situation quickly spiralled out of control, with heavy stone pelting on the police, they said. SI Kumar and four constables sustained injuries in the attack.
Police resorted to a baton charge before reinforcements arrived. Three people, including the driver, were arrested while others fled the scene.
"Strict action will be taken against them for attacking police and obstructing them in duty," the SHO said....
