Ganja worth Rs.4.35 crore seized by STF at Gaya, three held
PATNA, July 11 -- The Narcotics Cell of the Bihar Special Task Force (STF) seized 870 kg of ganja (marijuana) worth approximately Rs.4.35 crore in the early hours of Friday, officials said.
Director General (Operations) Kundan Krishnan confirmed the seizure.
Acting on a specific tip-off, an STF team began checking goods vehicles passing through the area. While nothing suspicious was found in the first few vehicles, the seventh vehicle aroused suspicion. The team intercepted the 22-wheel truck near Barachatti in Gaya district and arrested its driver, Parmendra Singh, and cleaner, Harmendra Singh, both residents of Ludhiana in Punjab.
During the search, police recovered several concealed bundles of ganja hidden beneath sacks of chemical powder. During interrogation, the two allegedly revealed the name of Chandan Kumar Bharti, a resident of Madhubani. Based on their disclosure, police conducted raids and eventually arrested Bharti from his in-laws' house in the Town police station area of Darbhanga.
"The consignment originated in Odisha and was being transported through Bihar to Punjab and other destinations. Chandan is the person who procured the narcotics from Odisha and supplied them to Punjab. The seized contraband and the arrested accused have been handed over to Barachatti police for further legal action," Krishnan said.
An FIR has been lodged at Barachatti police station under the relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against four named accused....
