SASARAM, Aug. 9 -- The court of District and Additional Sessions Judge-4 Anil Kumar in Sasaram sentenced five accused in the sensational 2015 kidnapping and murder of an 11-year-old boy to life imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs.20,000 on each of them, officials said on Saturday. Accused Jitendra Ram, a resident of Konar, Shashi Kumar, a resident of Dumaria, Chhotu Khan and Jahangir Khan, residents of Kaithi, and Sonu Ali, a resident of Sherganj in Rohtas district were found guilty of kidnapping of 11 year son of Samar Singh from Karansarai Muhalla of Sasaram and killing him after the parents could not pay Rs 50 lakh ransom. As per the prosecution case, the minor boy had left home to watch a movie on the evening of March 17, 2015. Around 7.15pm, the victim called his father and informed him that he had been kidnapped. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of Rs.50 lakh for his release and threatened to kill the boy if the father did not pay money within three days, additional public prosecutor (APP) Anil Kumar Singh said. The boy was murdered and his body was recovered by police next day. A case was registered at Sasaram Town police station and police submitted a charge-sheet under sections 302, 363 and 201 of the Indian penal Code. Prosecution examined 11 witnesses to prove the case during trial and court found all the five accused guilty of kidnapping and murder. The court sentenced them to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs.10,000 under section 302, five years' imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 363 and a fine of Rs.5,000 under Section 201. All sentences will run concurrently. They must undergo an additional six months' imprisonment if fines remain unpaid, the APP said. Following the verdict, the victim's family expressed satisfaction at having received justice after 11 years. Ravi's mother said that a house was built for her only son, but he could never live in it.
