PATNA, Aug. 11 -- Firearms purchased on fake arms licence issued from Bihar's Muzaffarpur have been seized in Uttarakhand. Till now, there were cases of firearms being purchased from Nagaland and northeast states on fake licences. Now, Bihar's name has made it to the list. Uttarakhand police has sent a letter to the Muzaffarpur police administration and requested to check the arms licences issued by the administration. According to the letter of Haridwar SSP Navneet Bhullar, four criminal cases have been registered so far in his jurisdiction while police seized 20 illegal firearms, 372 live cartridges and fake arms licences. Police have so far arrested 14 accused in this connection. According to the Haridwar police, it has come to light in the investigation that some people transferred and registered their licences before the Arms magistrate, which was later found as fake licences. False NOCs, forged documents and other fake documents were for inter-state transfer process. A SIT is probing the case. Haridwar police in its letter mentioned one case of Mohan Singh Rawat, raising suspicion that an arms licence was issued from Muzaffarpur in the name of Rawat, a resident of Mohammadpur under Roorkee police station area of Haridwar. The arms licence was transferred from Muzaffarpur to Uttarakhand later. A police official of Muzaffarpur said that during investigation, police found Rawat was associated with the Army. He had served in the NCC in Muzaffarpur, too. On the question of the possibility of the licence being fake, the official refused to comment.
