RANCHI, May 15 -- Former Jharkhand Minister Alamgir Alam walked out of Hotwar Jail on Thursday afternoon following a Supreme Court bail order. The 75-year-old Congress leader spent two years in incarceration after his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on May 15, 2024, in connection with a major tender commission scam. His wife, MLA Nishat Alam, and a large crowd of political supporters welcomed him outside the prison complex. The Supreme Court bench of Justices M.M. Sundresh and Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh granted bail on May 11 setting aside a previous Jharkhand High Court order. "Pursuant to our earlier order passed on 02.04.2026, the four key witnesses have been examined by the Trial Court. We also take note of the fact that the appellant, being an old man aged 75 years, has already undergone two years of incarceration," the apex court noted in its signed order....
