EoU finds assets worth crores at accountant's house in da case in Vaishali distt
PATNA, June 12 -- The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar police conducted raids at two locations linked to an Hajipur Nagar Parishad (HNP) accountant accused of amassing assets over 208% higher than his known sources of income, officials said on Thursday.
The value of the disproportionate assets has been estimated around Rs.2 crore.
According to the EoU, Manish Kumar's father was working in HNP. After his death, Manish was appointed as a peon on compassionate grounds in 2011. He was later promoted to an accountant.
During the searches of Manish's office and premises, he was found absent.
During the raid, the officials found one Mahindra Thar. Investigations revealed that the vehicle was in the name of a contractor Jagdish Rai.
EoU sleuths arrived at the contractor's house at Jadua locality under Ganga Bridge police station in Vaishali and searched his premises.
They seized some important documents and evidence besides documents related to alleged transactions between accountants and some contractors.
EoU found seven bank accounts, properties related purchase documents, around 10 LIC policies, the Thar, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, Bullet motorcycle, ornaments and related documents.
EoU DIG Manavjeet Singh Dhilon said the police froze Rs 15 lakh deposited in separate bank accounts.
"Manish invested Rs 85 lakh in the real estate and purchased six plots in the name of his wife Sunita. Two of the lands jointly registered on the name of Jagdish and Sunita. He earned Rs 50 lakh as salary from 2011 to till date," Dhillon added.
EoU has now served a notice to Manish to appear before the unit on June 15.
After verifying the information received from reliable sources, a case was registered under section 13 (2) read with section 13 (1) (b) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended 2018) at EoU.
After obtaining a search warrant from the Special Court, Muzaffarpur, separate teams of EoU reached the residence and office of Manish Kumar and started the operation....
