Ensure regular inspection of bridges: samrat asks officials
PATNA, June 5 -- In the wake of recent incidents of bridges developing cracks, chief minister Samrat Choudhary on Thursday instructed officials to ensure that safety audits and inspection of bridges in the state are conducted regularly.
Chairing a high-level review meeting with officials from the road construction department, he made it clear that there should be no negligence in maintaining the quality of the roads and in bridge construction. "Providing safe, convenient and high-quality road connectivity to people is one of the state government's highest priorities," Choudhary said through a press statement issued by the CMO.
The CM directed officials that the construction and maintenance of roads and bridges are essential for ensuring better commuting and connectivity systems in rural areas. He emphasised the need for regular monitoring of existing rural roads and their strengthening as required to ensure that the rural populace enjoys safe and convenient transportation facilities. He further stated that an effective system for road maintenance must be developed to prevent any unnecessary delays in the repair of damaged roads.
Choudhary directed that keeping in mind the growing population and traffic requirements, plans for the widening of rural roads should be advanced on a priority basis. He noted that improved road connectivity provides impetus to the rural economy and facilitates easier access for people to opportunities in education, healthcare and employment.
The CM also reviewed the progress of the Munger-Bariyarpur-Ghorghat-Sultanganj-Bhagalpur-Sabour four-lane Ganga Path project, which will be implemented under the hybrid annuity model. The project will enhance connectivity in eastern Bihar and boost the region's economic development and tourism, he said....
