PURNEA, Aug. 4 -- A fire broke out in the engine of a Samastipur - Saharsa Diesel Electrical Multiple Unit (DEMU) passenger train (No 63344) and its adjacent coach at Simri Bakhtiyarpur railway station under Samastipur rail division of East Central Railway in Saharsa district on Monday. Passengers were safely evacuated and no casualties were reported, officials said, adding that the cause of fire is under investigation. Train services remained affected on this route for around three hours. Divisional railway manager (DRM) of Samastipur rail division Jyoti Prakash Mishra who reached Simri Bakhtiyarpur station said, "Loco pilot of the train first saw the fire when it was standing at platform no-2 and soon alerted the station master. A fire brigade team reached the spot and the fire was brought under control." Mishra added, "The forensic experts, fire brigade and railway safety officials have started investigating the incident and anything concrete can be said only after investigation." Station master Sanjay Kumar Sajjan said, "All the passengers were safely evacuated. The fire was controlled within two hours as the fire brigade team reached soon after. Prima facie, it appears the fire was caused due to technical reasons." The movement of Manihari-Jainagar Janki express, Purnea-Hatiya Koshi Express and Sawan express special train between Saraigarh and Deoghar were affected. Fire officer Niranjan Kumar said, "On information, we deployed foam tender and a water tender from Saharsa fire station. A probe is underway to ascertain its cause."...
