PATNA, Sept. 13 -- In a major move to protect public assets and streamline real estate records, the Bihar Education Department will map every parcel of government school land across the state and launch a zero-tolerance crackdown on similar illegal encroachments. Education minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced that a dedicated "Land Register" will be established in every district education officer (DEO) office to document and safeguard school property. The initiative aims to build a centralised, accurate inventory of all physical assets belonging to state-run schools, he said. He underscored that government school land is public property and the department is duty-bound to protect it. "No encroachment on school land will be tolerated. Wherever illegal occupation is reported, prompt legal action will be initiated," he warned. State education department officials were directed to collect comprehensive land records from every district. Each entry will record the school's name, total land area, plot and revenue details (Khata-Khesra), and the current on-ground status of the property. Officials were further instructed to cross-verify and reconcile existing revenue records to prevent potential land disputes in the future. In addition, the department will introduce a mechanism for periodic monitoring to ensure school premises remain secure from land grabbers.
