Docs protest assault by patient's kin in Kaimur
BHABUA, July 15 -- Doctors in Kaimur are agitated after family members and supporters of a patient, who died in a road accident, abused and assaulted the doctor on duty at sub-divisional hospital, Mohania late Monday.
Gurfan Khan (40) of Naughara village was brought to the hospital at 11 pm, where the doctor on duty Dr Pradeep Kumar declared him dead after an examination. The family members, blaming the doctor for negligence, abused, dragged and assaulted him in the presence of security and police. Later, police controlled the situation.
Angry doctors and paramedical staff stopped OPD services, demanding the arrest of the assailants and proper security in the hospital. The services resumed Tuesday after negotiations and assurances from civil surgeon Dr Chandeshwari Rajak and sub-divisional magistrate Ratna Priyadarshini.
The IMA Bhabua branch condemned the incident in an emergency meeting on Tuesday. Its district president Dr Dineshwar Kumar Singh Mantu said the association gave the administration 24 hours to arrest and take action against the assailants, otherwise all government and private hospitals would close until proper action was taken and security was provided.
