Divorced husband attempts to set ex-wife's family on fire
PATNA, May 21 -- A divorced husband, allegedly infuriated by his ex-wife's second marriage, attempted to burn an entire family alive after throwing petrol on them at Raja Babu Gali under Chowk police station on Wednesday.
In the incident, the woman's second husband's parents, the woman herself, and two children sustained serious burn injuries.
The accused, identified as Kanhaiya, also received burn injuries.
Locals informed police that the incident occurred around 10:30 am after they heard screams and saw a massive fire coming from the house of Govind Agrawal at Rajaran Lane. The incident caused panic in the locality, and a large number of residents gathered at the spot.
All the injured people were admitted to Nalanda Medical College and Hospital (MNCH) in a critical condition.
The injured have been identified as Priya Kumari alias Moni (33), wife of Govind Agrawal; Suraj (3), son of her first husband, who suffered 60% burn injuries; Ayush, who sustained 35% burns; Purushottam Agrawal (72), who suffered 95% burns; and his wife Neelam Devi (60). Govind Agrawal, who works in a private company, told police he was on duty when the incident occurred. He said Kanhaiya had called him that morning seeking to meet. Govind asked him to come in the evening, but Kanhaiya allegedly arrived earlier with petrol and set the family on fire.
Police said preliminary investigation revealed that Govind and Priya were married on April 15, 2026. Priya had married Govind of her own will after divorcing Kanhaiya.
Govind alleged that Kanhaiya was a drug addict who frequently physically abused Priya, leading her to leave him with their two children....
