Dhanbad, Feb. 25 -- Two innocent men were brutally assaulted by a mob in Rajganj area of Dhanbad district after rumours of child lifting spread in the locality. Police acted swiftly, rescued the victims, and arrested three accused involved in the attack, people aware of the development said on Tuesday. According to police, the victims had come to the area to visit a relative when some locals grew suspicious and labelled them as child lifters. Within minutes, rumours spread and a crowd gathered. Without any verification, the mob surrounded the two men and thrashed them mercilessly despite their repeated pleas of innocence. On receiving information, Rajganj police rushed to the spot, dispersed the crowd and rescued the injured men. They were immediately shifted to a hospital for treatment. Police officials said timely intervention prevented a potentially fatal outcome. Based on the victims' complaint, Rajganj police station registered a case February 24, 2026, under relevant sections of BNS).
