Dead body carried on cart for post-mortem in Bihar; SI suspended
BETTIAH, Oct. 5 -- East Champaran Superintendent of Police (SP) Swarn Prabhat on Sunday suspended a sub-inspector (SI) and issued a show-cause notice to the Raghunathpur station house officer (SHO) following public outcry over an accident victim's body being taken to the postmortem centre on a cart in Motihari.
In an official statement issued on October 4, the East Champaran police said the action was taken over the manner in which the body of a man who died in an accident at Raghunathpur bus stand under Raghunathpur police station in Motihari on Saturday was handled. "Following the death of the man, his body was sent for postmortem on a cart due to gross negligence, indiscipline, arbitrariness, high-handedness and dereliction of duty on the part of station patrol officer Ambika Yadav.
Therefore, he has been suspended with immediate effect," the police statement said.
It further said that a show-cause notice had been issued to Raghunathpur station house officer Dhananjay Kumar in this connection.
Police said a law and order situation arose after a police patrol party reached Raghunathpur bus stand following the death of Umesh Sah, who was crushed by a bus, and transported his body on a cart....
