Jamshedpur, July 30 -- A 35-year-old Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan died of brain malaria during treatment at the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College Hospital (MGMMCH) in Jamshedpur on Wednesday, taking the malaria death toll to 13 in Kolhan, people close to the development said on Wednesday. "CRPF jawan Pintu Kumar was brought to the MGMMCH on Tuesday with high fever and in a serious condition. His pathological tests confirmed that he was suffering from Plasmodium falciparum (PF) or brain malaria. Despite our best efforts and treatment, he breathed his last on Wednesday morning," a doctor in the MGMMCH, told the media on Wednesday. Pintu Kumar was posted in the CRPF battalion-197 currently deputed in West Singhbhum district on anti-Naxal operational duty. He had married 10 years ago and is survived by two 5-year-old and a 3-year-old daughters and a 2-month-old son besides his wife. Kumar's colleagues and CRPF officers rushed to MGMMCH as soon as the news of Pintu Kumar's death reached them. They gave a formal guard of honour to the departed soul at the MGMMCH mortuary.
