PATNA, Sept. 9 -- A security audit of hostels and PGs across the state revealed that around 400 hostels were operating without registration, a senior police official said on Tuesday, adding that the police headquarters (PHQ) has directed the DMs/SPs concerned to take action against these hostels for failing to comply with the prescribed regulations. The numbers were brought to light following the recent building collapse in Delhi's Satya Niketan, which claimed seven lives and prompted urgent reviews of student housing safety. Additional director general (law and order) KS Anupam said the private girls' hostels were being continuously monitored with the help of Police Didi, special squads for strengthening women security through the Abhaya Brigade. Talking to reporters, the ADG said the process to confiscate the properties of habitual offenders involved in illegal sand transportation, land grabbing, and liquor trading was also underway. "More than 4,000 criminals have been identified so far while proposals related to the confiscation of their properties have been received from all the districts. The proposal to confiscate the property of 800 of these criminals is under consideration at the court level," he said. Regarding police enforcement activities, the ADG informed that between June and August, police arrested 1,229 individuals, including 1,166 involved in attacks on police, 42 in communal violence cases, and 11 in cases of mob violence. During the same period, police also took preventive action against 238,000 people. In a special drive, the Bihar police completed 33,390 pending cases between July 21 and July 30. The PHQ monitoring the pending cases through trial monitoring system in which 6,223 cases include 3,896 of the Arms Act, 791 of murder, 258 of robbery/dacoity, 925 of rape and POCSO Act have been uploaded on the TMS portal to proper monitor....
