Couple held for throwing infant son out of train
Jamshedpur, May 23 -- In a shocking incident, a couple was arrested after the woman threw her one-and-a-half-month-old infant son out of the train window and tried to push her 3-year-old son out as well.
The stunned passengers held the woman and saved the 3-year-old son, later handing the couple over to the police, people aware of the matter said on Friday.
The incident happened between Rajkharsawan and Mahalimurup stations when the couple, -- the woman identified as Mudravati Gope from Majhgaon police station (PS) area in West Singhbhum district -- and her husband Mohammad Shahabuddin were travelling with their two sons on board the Howrah-Barbil Jan Shatabdi Express on Wednesday.
Police took the couple into custody after the train reached Chaibasa station while the railway protection force (RPF) and government railway police (GRP) later recovered the body of the infant boy's from the railway tracks.
"Mudravati Gope's husband Mohammad Shahabuddin, son of Abdul Latif, originally hails from Chotkaliya village under the Jangipur TOP under Raghunathganj PS in Murshidabad district of West Bengal. He had eloped with Mudravati Gope from Majhgaon four years ago and the latter's family had lodged a FIR against him. The court had issued an arrest warrant against Shahabuddin in the case as he was absconding ever since. We had served absconding notice in his house also. He was under pressure to surrender," Dheeraj Yadav, Majhgaon PS officer-in-charge (OC), told the media on Friday.
Shahabuddin told the police that they did this act under the fear and pressure of being caught by police and sent to jail.
"After leaving Majhgaon four years ago, I had married Mudravati Gope and her name was changed to Haseena Begum. Subsequently, we started living in Hyderabad. We were returning to Majhgaon from Hyderabad under increased police pressure and tension," Shahabuddin told the police....
