Construction of over 890,000 houses under PMAY(G) to start soon
PATNA, March 20 -- With the fiscal year 2025-26 coming to an end in the next few weeks, there is a renewed focus on accelerating the construction of around 890,000 housing units under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Grameen), against the targeted 1.2 million units sanctioned for FY 2024-25 and 2025-26, officials said
The state Rural Development Department (RDD) has also sought Rs.3,000 crore as the central share for disbursement of third instalments to beneficiaries who have already received the second instalment, as well as to those who are yet to receive the second instalment.
"We are expecting the disbursement in the next few days. Once the funds are released, they will be transferred to beneficiaries for constructing the remaining portion of their homes," said a senior RDD official familiar with the matter. The fiscal year 2025-26 will end on March 31, 2026.
In FY 2024-25 and 2025-26, a total of 1.2 million units have been sanctioned under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Grameen), under which monetary assistance of Rs.1.20 lakh is provided to beneficiaries from economically weaker sections who do not own pucca houses and meet other criteria.
Out of the 1.2 million units, around .313 million have been completed. First instalments have been released to 1. 13 million beneficiaries, second instalments to 0.749 million beneficiaries, and third instalments to .355 million beneficiaries, according to people familiar with the matter.
Officials said construction and completion of units under PMAY(G) are being monitored through site inspections and in real time using advanced technology, and disbursements are made only after proper verification of construction progress.
The RDD will revise the PMAY(G) target by adding new beneficiaries after the end of the current fiscal year, while also reviewing the number of pending houses and assessing resource allocation, construction quality, and implementation timelines, officials said.
"The annual target for the next fiscal year will be finalised in the coming months after reviewing construction progress against the existing targets. Our focus is on completing over 8 lakh pending houses efficiently and within the stipulated deadlines at the earliest," said another RDD official....
