CJP & villagers file cross-FIRs after clash at Rajasthan school
Jaipur, Aug. 23 -- The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and local villagers have lodged cross-FIRs after a confrontation during the party's visit to a government school in Jaipur's Rampura Kanwarpura village, with both sides accusing each other of assault and creating a ruckus.
The CJP team had gone to inspect the condition of the government school as part of its "School Thik Karo" campaign when a scuffle broke out on Friday morning. Students were shifted to new premises by the school authorities on Saturday morning The CJP alleged that BJP workers present in the area attacked its members, while the villagers claimed that the party's presence had created fear in the village. SHO Shivdaspura Rajesh Gautam said a local villager lodged an FIR on Friday night, alleging that CJP members had arrived in large numbers and intimidated residents.
The villagers claimed that children were scared and were not attending school.
He said a second FIR was registered by a CJP member, alleging that the party's members were beaten up during the incident. They have demanded the immediate arrest of those responsible for the alleged attack.
Reacting to the FIR, CJP co-convenor Ashutosh Ranka alleged that the attackers were "goons" called by BJP leaders.
"We have videos and all the evidence. If they also have evidence, let them show it," he said.
A scuffle broke out when villagers, allegedly accompanied by BJP workers, put up barricades and forcibly pushed back a CJP team that had gone to inspect the government school. Videos of the incident showed a large number of people engaging in a heated exchange with the CJP team and pushing and shoving its members as they tried to enter the village. Some clips also showed smashed windows of cars believed to belong to the visiting CJP team. The school building had been closed to students after being declared "unsafe", with classes being held in a cattle enclosure nearby.
The villagers, however, claimed that the government had already sanctioned funds for repair work....
