PATNA, Aug. 30 -- The Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) has postponed the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and qualification verification for sub-inspector recruitment till further orders, an official said on Saturday. The PET for 1,799 sub-inspector posts was scheduled to be held in September and October. The commission cited unavoidable reasons for postponing the examination. The decision came after a meeting with a delegation of students chaired by the secretary of the Education Department on Thursday. During the students' agitation in Gardanibagh, student leaders had demanded the cancellation of the recruitment examination for 1,799 sub-inspector posts and a thorough investigation by the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) into allegations of cheating and irregularities in the examination. With the postponement, more than 33,888 candidates who qualified for the written examination will have to wait for a fresh PET schedule. The decision has triggered discussion among candidates preparing for the physical test. While the postponement gives them additional time to prepare, uncertainty will persist until a new date is announced. Candidates have been advised to wait for a fresh notification regarding the revised PET schedule. In an official notice issued late on Friday, the commission said the PET and qualification verification had been deferred following a letter from the Bihar Home Department. However, the BPSSC did not specify the reasons cited by the Home Department for seeking the postponement. The recruitment advertisement for the 1,799 sub-inspector posts was issued on September 23.
